*Been 8 weeks since i applied for a student visa*

Hello, i applied for a student visa from VFS global, Dubai on the 24th of June and its been 8 weeks and i still didn't get a reply. I tried contacting the Abu Dhabi Canadian embassy and they told me that they were conducting background checks. My university starts on the 6th of September and I'm afraid I'm running out of time. Has anyone else applied around the same time i applied and is still waiting?
