Hello everyone -

Facing a dilemma whether to submit online or paper application. Did some math and research and wanted to get some expert opinion on this.

July 30 - Feb 02 online applicants started getting AOR.
August 11 - March 8 online applicants have started to get AOR.
At a similar ratio, for every 2 weeks that pass, 4 weeks of BL is being cleared for online applications.
Based on above ratio, after 3 months( current AOR processing time for paper calculation), 6 months of BL should have been cleared which gets AOR for online applications September 8th timeline.
Currently paper application AOR is taking about 12 weeks (3 months) which means applicants applying in August are looking at mid-November timeline for AOR.

Conclusion: If online applications keep processing at the current rate, it would actually pass paper applications and an online applicant who applied today (Aug 11) would get their AOR potentially around October 22 vs a paper applicant who will get it around November.

Assumptions: Paper application rate stays similar to current state (12 weeks)

Apologies for the long post but would love to hear your thoughts on this as I'm not sure which route to go anymore.
The speed of processing applications have fluctuated a lot during Covid. Lot depends on the office that processes your application.
I personally don't anticipate much difference in processing times for paper and online applications.
The biggest advantage of online application is that the page validates upto good extend and less chances than paper application in case you forget to fill any section/item.
Another advantage is the cost and time taken to courier the application.
I would always recommend online applications for eligible persons.

Guys, is it true that online application processing time will be longer? I heard January applications are getting AOR now. Is it true? should we forget about our AOR coming for 6 months?

Pure speculation: But I have a gut feeling that IRCC folks are kinda old school. I suspect they print out physical pages even of online application and then process the items. Unless that back office process is digitized - which could take a while and incur costs related with training / system upgrades. They'll continue processing paper applications somewhat faster than online since it omits the step of converting online to print. Again pure speculation without any data points. Just to be a devil's advocate.
I applied for me and my wife via paper. However, could have as easily applied online separately. $25 or so spent in Canada Xpresspost is marginal, and I love an excuse to use my printer :)
