Hi Everyone, would really appreciate some help and insight.
We have applied for my husbands PR to Canada through family sponsorship, outland from Uganda. We have just been asked to send his passport in as the last step before his PR is issued/confirmed, along with some photos and a copy of the letter they sent. It says only to send the passport if a Visa is needed to enter Canada, which coming from Uganda a Visa is required but he already has a valid visitors visa. So what I'm wondering is if we just send copies of the passport (this is what it asks if you don't need an actual visa to enter) and copies of his valid visitors visa?
I'm basically worried to send the actual passport in as we are travelling in October and will need it..
You will need to send it in. Yes, you happen to have a visitor visa, but they will put an Immigrant IM-1 visa on your passport since Ugandan citizens need a visa to come to Canada. They may choose to not do so, and just send the passport back and tell you to travel on the TRV (this is unlikely), but they will want to see the passport.
It doesn't take that long to get the passport back. If you send it this week, you should easily have it back before October (barring some very unlikely major delay).
