Applying post grad work permit while passport is expring

I want to apply for my post-grad work permit, this will give me 3 years work permit. But, my passport is expiring in 18 months. I know that CIC does not give you permit more than the expiry date of our passport and we can not re-issue indian passport if it's expiring date is more than a year.

You can apply to extend PGWP after you get a new passport if you qualify for a 3 year permit.
