Applying for open work permit after open PGWP has expired

My open PGWP expired in May 2022. After that I had to come back to India as I couldnt renew it or was unable to get bridging work permit. I am also awaiting my PR approval and I'm an eligible candidate for CEC and FSWP class in the Express Entry pool. In order to improve my score for PR, I need to have more Canadian work experience. Can I apply for open work permit to go back and work in Canada again?

Unfortunately you do not qualify for an open work permit. There was a public policy in place that allowed some PGWP holders to extend their work permits but this public policy ended on December 31st.

Thanks for your response scylla, I understand your point. Although I was reading this article which says I can apply for work permit within 18 months of expiry ... Can you please explain this as well?

Read what is at the very top of the page. You must apply by December 31, 2022. This date has passed.

The other option would be to secure a job offer in Canada and for your employer in Canada to obtain an approved LMIA so that you can come to Canada on a closed work permit.

Sounds about right, but I have also heard that the whole process of LMIA is both - tedious and expensive, where can I find more info on this? Also, will an employer be willing to go through this extensive process to hire someone overseas? I'm confused
