Dear,
I, with my husband, plan to land in Calgary by end of Aug 2012.
We are also expecting our first baby around end Nov and it makes us more nerves about coming to an entirely new place with minimum information about it.
Have so many questions like;
What kind of challenges we may have face with a 6 month permanent lady especially when winter is setting in?
What kind of housing/place is better for woman in this condition?
How to find a rented place to live and which area (crime free and with good access/transport/train system)?
Should we plan to buy a vehicle or we can survive without it there?
How much a good condition second hand pickup truck/car usually cost?
What on avg. monthly budget we should plan for a family of two + a baby?
Being Muslim I would also look for information about hilal food, Mosques and Muslim community etc
Huh...and so many more.......
PLEASE! Share your experiences advises and provide as much information as possible even beyond aforementioned questions
God bless you all
Thanks
The safest way to carry money would be in form of bearer bank drafts. Any amount larger than 10k needs to be declared at canadian point of entry to customs as well as immigration officers.
You might have to face questions from Indian customs at IGIA incase you would be taking along foreign currency more than specified in your documents. Please carry receipts from issuing bank and also reason y u wanna carry money more than specified.(if applicable).

Param,
That is a good one. However, it should be borne in mind that it takes some time for bank draft to clear. In our case, we had two bank drafts - one in my name and the 2nd in my wife's name and both were issued by 2 different UK banks. On arrival, it took approximately 30 days for two different Canadian banks to clear them despite the efficient banking systems in both countries (UK & Canada). We were fortunate to have about $5,000 in cash with us.
So, I will advise to have some cash with you for immediate needs.
we can carry upto 1lakh USD or equivalent per person in form of Cash/TC/DD etc.....but cash is allowed only 3k USD or equivalent...rest in form of TC/DD etc if going on IMMIGRATION.....so if ur family of 3..den can carry 3LAKH USD or equivalent.
buy TC in CAD....best way...
more than 10K USD or equivalent per person should be declared.
@ Param....its our money...no need to worry ...we can carry upto the limit specified....n moreover if u going on immigration...its understood we r carrying more money to settle down.
