Hello I am sending in an application for permanent residence for my spouse in Canada class but his 6 months within Canada expires in the middle of February and his visitors visa expires in March.
We would like to send in the application for an open work permit with the PR application but as his status expires soon would it be safer to apply only for an extension on his status, if so, is that form 5708 with the PR?
Or would it be recommended to send in the open work permit application/ extension to stay ( i think that is form 5710)?
I'm afraid that they may not look at the form in time and that his status will expire as it's already the middle of January.
1 the PR application and 5708 and 5710 as we do not have much time ? or
2 the PR application and form 5710 hoping they would get to it before mid Feb,?

If you want to be 100% safe, apply for extension anyway. Some people have had their OWP application returned months later, rendering them out of status even if they sent it in before their status expired.

Thank you. Just second guessing myself now and asking to be sure that we have answered the forms correctly. PR application with open work permit. I am the sponsor and my husband has been here since May 2019 re entered In August 2019 as a visitor. We have selected (family in class for spouse) inland app. Many of the application forms ask for "country of residence" and we have selected Canada as it is an inland application and status "visitor" under the same question . Was this the correct selection?
