The IRCC website still seems to suggest that processing time for Citizenship application is 12 months. Say someone submits a paper application today, is this timeline still reasonable/sensible (assuming routine processing), considering backlog and other things (like Covid related delays)? Based on many discussion thread in this forum, my assessment is it would take minimum of 16 months. Is my understanding correct (again, assuming typical application and routine processing)? Just to keep anxiety under control . Thanks.
That's a good question. They are at the moment finalizing Citizenship applications (non-complex-which is 80% of the applications they received) between May 12 and 18, 2019. This says its taking roughly 2 years.
On the other hand, the processing time does say 12 months. So its contradicting. I have seen a Feb/March 2020 applicant having done their Oath. So seems like 12 months.
You have to answer "Yes" to that question because you would have also answered "Yes" to "Did you have Canadian temporary resident status (i.e. as a visitor, international student, temporary worker, temporary resident permit holder), and/or were a protected person) between 2016-07-07 and <the date you became a PR>.
Just to clarify, you came here in May 2017, left Canada and then returned to Canada on 2017-07-08 - Is this understanding correct?

May 2017 came to Canada for a visit for 3 weeks and returned to home country.
July 2017 moved to Canada and got married then left for honeymoon for a week.
August 2017 came back from honeymoon and landed in Canada with a extended visitor visa valid for 1 year.
July 2018 received work permit.
Feb 2019 received PR.
Since coming back from honeymoon in August 2017 I have not left Canada for any reason (business, travel..etc.)
So do I mention the fact that I lived abroad in 2016 and log my 3 week visit here as time spent on a visitor visa or do I only add my time since July 2017?

I am going to renew my home country passport because it’s expiring soon.
When I receive the new passport,do I have to send to IRCC and update them regarding the new passport. ? Or just wait if they requested to show the originals then I show both old and new passports ?

I don't think you'll have to update IRCC once you receive a new passport. If they ask you about it later in the process, you can provide a copy of whatever it is they are asking.
These updates happen later in the process (usually after the test or sometimes concurrently with the test) and AFAIK, these updates are made by the local office.
Varies between person to person. Online applicants are reporting it is taking way longer than paper applicants. Generally, it used to happen in about 2 months before the pandemic. Late 2020 applicants received it in about 3 - 4 months. Now, the processing times are all over the place.
