Just a quick question guys,

are you all asked for two photographs along with the pasport in the email? i find it weird, my friend recieved his email few weeks ago but he was asked just for the passport, probably because he was under CEC regular stream and not express entry?

That's right. For old paper based CEC, people were asked to send two photographs with the application.
