When you say "In Progress" what is the exact message you see on your CIC profile? Since they updated the status messages, it's hard to figure out what I'm supposed to be looking for. Currently, my BG shows "Your application is in progress. Next step is to conduct a background check".

At this point of time, they will do R10, Criminal checks. Once they are done, they will transfer your file to next stage for Eligibility Assessment (A11.2). Once these things are done, they will initiate Security Check and then your status will be changed to Not Applicable. This is the stage where your file will be transferred to LVO(Local Visa Office) for final decision.

There is nothing to worry. BG process depends on various things and we shouldn't compare our timelines with anyone because every application is unique. As long as we are not hearing anything, we can safely assume that our things are moving smoothly. Keep up your paitence and you'll get your turn as well.
How so? the status literally says that "the next step is to conduct a background check" meaning that they haven't started the background check,it's that simple.
IP(in progress) is the same as "We are conducting your background check", I know this for a fact because my Background check changed before the working update.
Therefore, unless CIC is drunk, when they say the next step is to conduct a background check,it means that they haven't STARTED conducting the background check.

If you go with the general meaning of the wording, then I'll agree with whatever you mentioned. But that is not the fact that it is happening and best example my case. Rest is upto you how you take it.

In last couple of days, i posted my question in Jan/Dec thread and nobody gave the reply. One vague scenario is running in my mind since I got a reply from CIC about visa office. My application is in Ottawa and please you tell me it means I have passed R10 and Eligibility Assessment (A11.2). If yes how much time CIC may take more.
Please note that your application is being processed at the Case Processing Centre in Ottawa.
My timeline is
AOR - 7/01/2017
