So, with how things are going, it doesn't seem like the hotel quarantine will be going away anytime soon, especially with the summer coming up, right? Are you allowed to book the hotel in advance or is it only within 2 weeks of when you'll be there?

The quarantine hotels are not going away any time soon.
If you absolutely have to travel then book the hotel of your choice at least 2 weeks in advance. The 3-day resort fees are non refundable and if
your flights change the better ones are more flexible and will try to accommodate you as long as you stay with them.

You ask how things are going?

Really depends where you are.

First, I want to say that I'm deeply sympathetic to those stuck in this situation - whatever the need to do this from a policy / public health perspective, it truly is difficult for the individuals who get caught out. (So far this pandemic has left me and my family stuck three or four times already)

And I really am sad to say 'I told you so' - but yeah, the first reactions that "what about X?" are often wrong.

There will be other ways and countries to transit through, etc. Not all of them will be 'closed'. Some of them will. All of them will be painful for the people who get caught. And no policy is perfect.

Transit through other countries is risky now especially if something unexpected happens.
Once things settle down regarding variant flights there may be some opportunities for safe travel in the near future.

Lots of pain going around in some areas so be safe!

Someone could fly from Mumbai to Frankfurt, for instance, before continuing on their way to Toronto — where mandatory 14-day-long quarantine rules still remain very much in effect for all international travellers.

Of course, many travellers are now choosing to fly into Buffalo or Detroit instead, where they can drive across the border and avoid the costly hotel quarantine process mandated by Canada's federal government for incoming air passengers.

Presently, I couldn't find better (only for Pakistanis) than the premium loophole : from Dubai, with Etihad. Everything is included.

At the very least people will need to quarantine in Frankfurt and get another PCR test. Many will also need to get a visa to enter Germany. Others will have to get a US visa and get a new PCR test in the US. What if people test positive in the US so can’t enter Canada? Are they prepared for the potential of millions of dollars of medical bills if they end up in a US ICU? Even a short trip to the hospital could be 10k easily.

Totally agree, except for Dubai with Etihad. Canadians do not need a visa. PR also, because it's a transit. Etihad is offering everything at the airport. That's why I called it premium loophole. However, with USA and Europe, it's risky for Indians, like you pointed.

This is a fluid situation so this may not remain possible.

Are you sure the PCR testing is available in the transit area? Just a few days ago it was not in the transit area. The tweet does not indicate it is in the transit area. Looks more like you have to enter Dubai you have to follow their quarantine rules. Would get something in writing from Eithad versus trusting a tweet.

Are you sure the PCR testing is available in the transit area? Just a few days ago it was not in the transit area. The tweet does not indicate it is in the transit area. Looks more like you have to enter Dubai you have to follow their quarantine rules. Would get something in writing from Eithad versus trusting a tweet.

I hope the border services staff, airport authority employees, and quarantine hotel workers, are able to stay safe especially if they have not been vaccinated.

Nowhere in that article does it say anything about vaccine passports or more restrictions. The closest thing to it is where it says the border restrictions work only when the local rules and testing are in place to make the border restrictions useful
