Hi everyone! Love this forum. I'm an American going to start work under a NAFTA Permit in Feburary in Toronto, and I'm also married to a Canadian (1.5 years). I'd like to start applying for PR, and I just wanted to double check (been looking through this forum, it's been great for info!):
- Should we apply outland for family class sponsorship? That appears quicker.
- If I apply outland, am I allowed to leave Canada at any time? What about inland?
- The NAFTA Work Permit and PR application don't have much to do with each other correct?
It looks like the way to go is for my canadian wife to do a Family Class sponsorship of me, outland, while I work on this NAFTA permit. Then I'll be able to leave the country for travel whenever during the application?
Appreciate the confirmation, I really apologize if this has already been answered just wanted to be sure!

If you apply outland, you are indeed allowed to leave whenever you wish without risking your PR application. Because you also have a work permit, it should facilitate easier entry when/if you leave and return to Canada.
Correct, they have nothing to do with one another. You will of course have to answer the questions relating to it on your PR application, but beyond that nothing else.
Have you already been working in Canada with a NAFTA permit? I only ask because before my American husband and I got married, I was looking at the possibility of applying for work that qualifies under the NAFTA permit but read how difficult it is to be admitted at the border if you have 'ties' in the other country (e.g. a spouse that lives there). So I decided against the possible heartache and stay in my current position. But either way, I agree with the outland PR application! Faster processing times, too!
