I am a Canadian citizen. My wife is a US Citizen and has applied for her PR via the Inland route. She applied for an OWP at the same time and has received her permit. Our family is looking to take a short vacation to the US and Mexico and it is unlikely she will be approved for her PR by the time we leave. Has anyone left Canada for a vacation under similar circumstances? If so, aside from her US passport and Work Permit, is there anything else we should bring with us? When we get to the customs kiosks, I'm assuming that we answer "Work" and "Immigration" as the purpose of the visit for her when returning?
I can't speak for Mexico, but my husband and I took a short 2 week trip to the US in November. Going there was no problem (he's US citizen, I'm Canadian citizen; PR in progress, he has work permit). The only time we expected problems was coming back into Canada, and talking to immigration. At the kiosks we put in "work", and he was asked for his permit, and we were let through. As long as you can prove you wife has ties to Canada (work permit, paystubs, bank details in her name), there shouldn't be issues coming back
