Advice - What is the best route?

Hi All,

Hoping to get some advice.

I am currently looking into my options about gaining some (about 2 years) international experience around the Toronto area, in Finance (either as an analyst or FP&A).

A bit of background about me:
I am UK citizen, under 30, with Ba(Hons) and CIMA qualification. With around 5/6 years experience (NOC 0 (Finance Manager) and NOC A (Finance Analyst)). Additionally, i am about to finish an MBA, with graduation due June 2018.

Additionally, my mums sister is a citizen of Canada.

I was wondering with the above taken into consideration what would be my best route in gaining the experience i desire?.

Apply for an IEC / Working Holiday Visa and hope you are selected (there are more applicants than spots available).

Alternatively immigrate to Canada first (through an economic immigration stream like express entry). Details on Canada's immigration programs here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

Thanks for the response, just applied for the IEC/Working Holiday Visa so i have been added to the "pool" just as you said have to wait and see if i am going to be selected.

Would this allow me to do a senior Financial analyst/ FP&A type role or are the limitations?.

I have looked at the express entry and may do it, with score of about 474 (assuming CIMA counts as a certificate) otherwise i will have to wait until the completion of my MBA to get 480. Are these score sufficient to get in through the Express Entry route?.

You can do any role you wish on an IEC.

CIMA will most likely not count as a certificate (it's a designation - rather than a certificate - so no points). Anything above 430 should get you ITA.

Reading on other topics here, CIMA is assessed by WES as equivalent to a 3 year bachelors degree.

Typically it depends on how you completed it. If it was done as part of a degree - the degree will be assessed as a degree and you'll get the credit for it. If it was done independently, then typically no points.

Ah thank you, how strange.

Guess i can not count it, which lowers my score to just above 440 (i think) but still should be high enough.

That's still high enough. I would go ahead and submit your profile once you've completed IELTS and had your education officially assessed. You can always try assessing the CIMA certification if you're OK spending the money.
