HI everyone, I need an advice or your opinion . I recently quit my job and my working permit will expire on Aug 2011. I decided to resign so I can study and prepare for an exam on Aug. Likewise, I just submitted my application for my PR under Spouse/common-law sponsorship this week. My question is, Do i lose my legal status to stay in Canada upon resigning? When will I apply for restoration of status, and/or how to change a working visa to an open permit. thanks!

You can stay till the expiry date of your WP, then you're out of status after that. Did you send a WP application with your spouse/common law sponsorship application? If your app is inland (sent to CPC-V), they will send you an OWP after the first stage approval. You can apply for a change your status to that of a visitor before the expiry of your WP though.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I came here in a WV, I was still single then. And yes, I send the spouse/common-law app in CPC-V, just this week.

Hi! we almost have the same case. I did apply for inland spousal application last septeber 2010. and I worked as live-in caregiver from april 2008 to may 2010. after marriage, i decided to quit the job to be with my husband. but then i realized my work permit is going to expire this june 2011.. so i was confised what to do now because my work permit expires first before i will receive the response from the immigration. Im planning to go back to work woth the same employer for me to extend my work permit.

good luck to us..
