Thank you for your reply. I was really worried coz my background check is under process since even though I’m residing in UAE however i chose my country of application as India and so many of my friends in india who applied from there itself dont hav their background check under process and so they were telling that its not applicable for indians.
However since my present location being UAE I understand that even though my application is in India still its normal to hav background check since I’m out of my home country.

Don't worry . And i don't know why your friends thought that background check is not applicable on indians. Whereas if you search on this forum or any other cic page background check is for security reasons check for Canada or any other country. If some applications takes longer than usuall time for background check it means they cue it for security reasons. (Its normal)
Before making any decisions they contact agencies for clear record in home or residence country. Some times it takes long time to get clean chit.Dont wory, its all normal procedure and applies on all applicaticants for all countries.
Hope it helps.
Any update guyz.. i have submitted mine on 25 june online from pakistan and no update so far. Our applications are also processed in Abu Dhabi... since our processing time is 8 weeks. But no biometric instructions received so far
I have also applied for study permit and my application is also being processed at Abu Dhabi office since 11th of May. My eligibility of reviewed and background check started on 22nd May.
Can u please share what is your timeline and when did your process start. Also are you an Indian citizen?
I have applied online for study permit (from Muscat, Oman) on 25th May, I received a medical request on 21st June & submitted my medical by 25th June. As of 20th July, I haven't heard back from them. I am an Indian citizen too & I've applied for masters at University of Windsor.
On raising a case specific enquiry, they have replied that they are facing a huge increase in number of applications & consequences are increased processing times.

Yeah, I needed medical as I stayed in India for more than 6 months.. Biometrics are based on nationality too (since I hold an Indian passport, not required for me according to the current rules).
