Hi All,
I have just recently granted Canadian PR. I am applicant of 2015 (before express entry). I am not in Canada now but planning to spend the minimum time for getting citizenship in future. My PR cards will expire after 5 years. How much time I need to spend in Canada to get citizenship . is it 3 years in 5 or 4 years in 6. if it is 4 years in 6 then my PR cards will expire before 6 years , how is this possible?
It's four years out of six years for citizenship. If you don't leave Canada at all for four years straight - then you can apply once you have completed these four years. Your PR card is independent of the citizenship process. If you don't have citizenship by the time your PR card is due to expire, you will simply apply to renew your PR card.
Added to that, you should not leave Canada as soon as you apply for citizenship because if they don't think you intend to reside in Canada, they will do your very best to delay your application as much as possible. Better stay in Canada at least until you get your citizenship.
