I don't think writ of mandamus will work when an application is stuck in security screening. I know someone with the same status submitted writ of mandamus, didn't work.

This is absolutely not true. Do your research properly, there are countless number of people stuck in security screening that have received positive results through Mandamus. Do yourself a favour, speak to a competent Immigration lawyer today and thank me later.

This. The writ usually has more substance if you’ve been under security check for over 18 months. Then you can submit a writ petition and more often than not people get their security check completed.

I have been stuck in Security Screening, Comprehensive screening since the 14th May 2024, ITA 11th February 2024, AOR the 3rd March 2024. I ordered the GCMS notes twice, first time in august 2024 and the second time received few days ago. I have noticed two major changes in the second notes, the first one is that although the application status is still “ON HOLD” for both notes, but the app status reason has changed from “Suspended – Clearances” to “BLANK”. The second change is that the application changed from “Received by CBSA” to “Favorable”. Has someone experienced this kind of notes? And could we say that it is a good sign for the end of this security screening nightmare? Thanks to you all for all the valuable information that we are getting here.

I applied for my Open Work Permit on April 29th and am still waiting for a decision. I recently ordered GCMS notes, which say that I’ve been under comprehensive security screening since October 22nd.

I’d like to know if the processing timeline for OWPs differs from that of PR applicants. Are the same officers responsible for processing both types of applications?

Hello guys,
I applied for PR and have been put in comprehensive security check since May last year.
I also have a valid OWP, and I applied for the visitor visa in case I need to go abroad and come back. But they asked for CV for my visitor visa application in December, which I suspect is another round of security check on my visitor visa. I have applied visitor visa before but never had this. Anyone knows what is going on here? Thank you guys in advance.

I've got almost the same situation: an AOR of February 19, 2024, and got stuck in the Comprehensive SS since September 19, 2024.
Any idea why your app status was "ON HOLD"? Mine is "Open", and the reason is "In Progress".
But the security screening status for me is still "Received by CBSA" from September 19, and no updates since then.

Hey guys I reached out to my MP I got reply like this
Thank you for your email. According to the IRCC, the security check is handled by third parties outside of the IRCC. Unfortunately, there is no specified processing time for these security checks. However, your eligibility and criminality checks have already been completed successfully.

I don’t know what to do as my background check is showing in progress from August 14 and my AOR was on May 2024, CEC inland

This is essentially the same reply I received from my MP's office, they do not even know who is conducting the security check. Our application has been labelled as non-routine which means the IRCC can take their sweet f*****g time processing it. I've reached out to several ministers in Ottawa, ordered GCMS Notes from the CBSA and the file is still not moving. When our file was moved from office #2 to #3 there was literally no communication for 7 months which is hideous. Currently resides in Windsor.

The lonely security screening of one individual has been outstanding for 10 months, FFS. How on earth the IRCC somehow thinks this is acceptable is beyond me. Recently renewed my wife's WP (good until Nov. 2026) at a cost of $255 CAD and would not have had to pay anything if we had PR status. Original application was inland spousal sponsorship, PR, and WP Aug. 5th, 2022.

I've got today on the IRCC inbox today a request for re-medical and an update for the PCC, but the BCG still on N/A status, so I suppose that my background check is still in progress. For your question, I don't know why my file was suspended.
