Hi. My mother in law is here in Canada on a visitor visa. I need to extend her stay in Canada. What’s the maximum amount we can apply for her to stay on the visitor record? Is it only 6 months maximum? Thanks !

Yes usually 6 months because this is a visitor visa not for longterm stays. You can try to ask for a year but wouldn’t push it higher. Would perhaps indicate that you would like to extend for 1 year and her reason why she wants to extend the stay for a year. If not, she would like to remain for another 6 months. Has she already extended her status already? At a certain point extensions are usually refused. Would suggest that she apply for a supervisa next time she returns to her home country so if she comes for another visit she can remain for up to 2 years.
