Passport renewal and COPR

Hello Everyone! I got my COPR last December but due to travel restrictions I wasn't able to travel. My passport was expiring and had applied for a new one. I have got my renewed passport, but my COPR will be expiring on 4th of August. My question is if I submit my passport to the consulate will they extend my COPR till my medicals are valid? Medicals are valid till November. Please guide me in this situation.

If you have. valid visa and cOPR, even if you renewed your passport, you can travel and you do not have to inform IRCC.

Only if your PR visa / cOPR has expired, that you have to get it renewed.

Once the COPR is issued, the application is closed. If you renew your passport after this, it cannot be updated in the application.

Also, if you have a valid PR visa in your old passport, you can still travel with the visa and the new passport. You will though have to carry both passports.

Thanks alot for your timely reply. I have booked for my vaccination on 3rd August and will get second dose on 24th of the same month. My COPR is expiring on 4th of August while medicals are valid till November.Is there any way I can extend my stay till September? Will they issue me new COPR after 4th August?

If your COPR has expired a new once will be issued. However, it may take some time.

My copr is valid till 4th August. In any scenario can they extend COPR till medicals are valid? My medicals are expiring in November. I will be fully vaccinated in August. If i wait i can avoid paying quarantine fees.

You can request for an extension. Where to do it or not is at the discretion of the officer.

Webform is the best way to contact IRCC.

Thank u so much. Just out of curiosity, If I don't travel and my COPR expires, can they revoke my pr? Will they issue new COPR or something else?

Currently no. due to COVID. However, earlier they could because when your apply for PR you communicate your intent to reside in Canada, and if you do not for a prolonged period of time, then your PR status can be revoked.

Hi @legalfalcon - my COPR and medical is expiring in Aug 2021 and I will not be fully vaccinated before it expires and won't be able to land before then. IRCC website doesn't say much about expiring COPRs. Will the IRCC extend/issue a new COPR?

You will be contacted and inform if a new COPR will be issued or an extension will be provided.
