Would it affect my SDS application if I attach IELTS General? has anyone received PPR with IELTS General?
I would be applying for express entry along with a study permit, attempting both exams will be difficult and time taking for me, so I am trying to hit two birds with one stone.
I might have a chance with AINP, so I want my express entry profile to be up and running sooner.
This is their official statement, but we all know that VOs assessments are highly subjective. Maybe they are biased towards IELTS General. They would never cite IELTS as one of the reasons for refusal but their assessment would be based on IELTS too.
Ielts scores are needed merely to assess the applicants language ability, for which ielts general is enough. But I agree that it will depend upon the VO.
You should do the general. it is accepted for both SP application and EE. EE doesn't accept IELTS academic. I don't think the VO's subjectivity or preference matters for language proficiency. They accept what the system tells them is acceptable.
On an aside, I saw on Twitter recently that IRCC India only accepts IELTS academic for study permit. Are you from India?

You see the tweet I posted above? although officially IELTS is not required for non-SDS, but they have mentioned in their tweet that IELTS Academic is acceptable. Why if officially it's not required? they always create confusion.

Yeah, I've had my fair share of confusion from IRCC these past couple of week .
In your case though, go with IELTS general. That's your best option. It's what I wrote and used cos I am applying for PR as well. ALOT of other people I know used it too.

Thing is, they have mentioned in this reply that if there is a visa office-specific instruction. In the case of applicants from Pakistan, files are being transferred from Ottawa to Abu Dhabi and now starting in June 2021, they have been transferred to Warsaw. Each of these offices could have its own specific requirement at its own discretion. Add more confusion to an already confused state.
