Hey, did u figured out something? After 18 months my spouse was finally gonna fly on the 23rd night and flights got cancelled. Looking at the news I think the ban will be longer than 30 days.
The way the situation is now, it is possible it will extend more than 30 days. I also had to cancel flights//hotel booking. The "idea" of canadian goverment is that you can fly with indirect flight is baseless and nothing confirmed. The reason why i say that is i got to know through social media that someone was travelling to canada via Germany and booked a covid test in Germany. All was prepared but Airline refused to let that passenger board because she was travelling from India. Best option is to wait and not go through indirect flight unless you know for sure that Airline will take a passenger from India to Canada. I would rather wait another 30+ days than have to deal with this nonsense that Canadian Government has caused. They didn't even give few days notice for people to cancel or atleast allow those who were already booked.
This was not the 'idea' of the Canadian government to provide some alternate route. Direct flights to India were cancelled - that's all the government has the power to do.
Government then clarified under what circumstances passengers travelling through other countries would be permitted. It's pretty clear the intent was not to facilitate that travel - but to clarify the very limited circumstances under which travellers would be allowed to enter.

Well than they shouldn't say anything about and alternate route and cause confusion. In any case there has to be some timeframe before they shout everything down.

I don't believe this alternate route term is from the government. They're certainly not recommending - quite the opposite.
The language is here:
Suspension of flights from India
On April 22, 2021, at 11:30 p.m. (EDT), the Government of Canada suspended flights from India for a period of 30 days.
During that period, passengers who travel to Canada from India via an indirect route will need to obtain a pre-departure negative COVID-19 molecular test result from a third country before continuing their journey to Canada.
Carefully consider your itinerary and transit options as COVID-19 testing for passengers in transit might not be available in all international airports or third countries.
New Zealand lifted their ban on flights from India today, for citizens and immediate family. Here’s to hoping Canada does the same after the initial 30 days. Cheers.
Yes, I have received PPR and passport went out for stamping but due to the bad Covid situation, VAC's in Delhi are closed and we are just waiting for our passport to get back to us.
