It is quite possible. May be the person assigned for your file is sick or on vacation or may be handling some back log of applications from 1 year ago. Possibly some files take more time to review than others because some applications are simple and just one applicants. Some applications are complex that they have multiple PR period, calculation days, presence out of canada for more than 6 months in one go requires PCC, some people may have criminal charges and some may have court orders.

There are only some scenarios I could think of. There can be many more.
My file is simple. I have 1825 days of continuous residency. Only one home address. Completed degree here. Only two jobs during eligibility period.

You bet! :)
I left my kids (3 and 6 then) in my home country before I came to Canada, and they didn't come here till 5 years after. I missed 5 years of their lives.
I am very ok to wait now because this time, I am waiting with them here now. I guess, I just have so much spare time to think about the application when I am at work. :D
Good to hear. You've come so far by making uncountable sacrifices in your life. I totally understand your feeling but it is what it is. It's the last hurdle anyone have to deal with IRCC but it's one of the slowest. This pandemic didn't make this process any better. Its just a waiting game.

Two things:

a) You should update your address if you've moved to a new permanent place of residence. What is the context of the possibility of you needing to take a test and/or oath in Ontario vs. where you're currently residing (Alberta)? Depending on how long you're going to be away, you may want to consider updating your address.

b) Ontario is still a part of Canada so you should be able to take your test and oath in Ontario even if you're an Alberta resident without violating any conditions (if you're doing it online; in person is probably a no but that's not happening these days anyway).

A qq....Maybe the process is outlined in the forum, but what happens after AOR. How long does it typically take to go to the in process stasge?

Thank you. For your response. I will be going for a 6 months overseas stay and coming all the way to Alberta if I receive invitation to take the test with in those 6 months will be a little pricey.

Just take a look at this 2020 tracker and you can get an overall idea about everything.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1U27V95kWlCVYWB0zye7DvqoXSkyqxgbA31eEJ_TKO6Y
If you want more insights then try to look for 2019 tracker.
Hope this helps.
To add to this, it looks like the first week of October 2020 people are receiving their 'In Progress' updates as of this Friday (19 Feb 2021).

This is good news, because it means we theoretically could begin receiving 'In Progress' updates for our applications by the third week of March or so (at least, for the folks who submitted their apps in the first week of November 2020). I am curious to see if whatever demarcation happened to application processing around end-October for our applications will likely result in a different rate of 'In process' updates for November 2020 applicants, but there's a few weeks to go before we collectively find out. :)

I would be a bit careful planning an overseas stay between now and when it's likely that our cohort will be able to do their tests and oath - safe travels!

Now, this post makes me smile knowing they are speeding the process. Not being too ambitious, but hoping we would get to the citizenship test invitations soon for our Nov group. This motivates me to open my ' Discover Canada book' which is lying in isolation for a long time. All the best guys. :)

Time will tell and thankfully it's just a matter of another 4 weeks or so before we begin to see November 2020 'In Process' updates for the group (going by the current rate of progress). As and when we get concrete evidence of paper-based, non-urgent 2020 applicants getting test invites en masse we'll begin to have the datapoints we need to assess when exactly November 2020 applicants can expect to get their test invites.

Hope we can get everything done by the end of November 2021 :)
Gotta wait and watch. While this article is critical of recent developments, it looks like the IRCC is making good on other items on their 'digitalization' strategy for applications. The article in question concerns the application for passports and IBM being contracted to develop the platform. Even if our applications are particularly painful, there is some solace in knowing that we are going through are the final ones and that the system improved as a result, so nobody else had to go through what we went through.

i am not too hopeful based on the 2019 tracker. Just 1 or 2 people probably got test invite from 2020 Jan/Feb so far. December 2019 people are still receiving test invites. Some of the applicants are from September/October 2019 still waiting on test invites or oath dates etc.

IRCC is not explicitly saying this whole process will take 12 months to finish due to COVID-19. Majority of the November 2020 applications will be done "probably" by April/May 2022. Again these are my assumptions.
