Hi there! You can work as a CDA. Communication Disorder Assistant.
Hi, I am a second year master student of Speech Language Pathology in India. And I want to work as a Speech Language Pathologist in Canada. When should I apply for a job? and What is the first process in doing so. I have a valid passport as of now. I am confused weather I have to first register with Canadian association or what should I do? As someone mentioned a thing about registration being province wise. Can someone help me please? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
Hi SAK96,
You have 2 options to do.
1. To get a Permanent Residency in Canada-> Apply for work license-> Land in Canada ->Apply for jobs.
2. Find a job-> Get work permit-> Land in Canada and work.
The option number 2 is hard but not impossible because no employer is going to wait for so long for you. The process is pretty long and it takes time. So employers prefer hiring someone who's already in Canada.
for option number 1, you have to apply for PR. For that u need 2 years of work experience and some more. You can get all the information here.

Hope this helps.

Hello Kiran. Could I please ask what occupation did you register when applying for permanent residence? I see that Speech Language Pathologists aren't easily recognized in Canada if you don't have a degree within the MRA. If I want to work as a Communications Disorder Assistant with a BS Speech Pathology degree and more than 2 years of experience, should I put in Speech Pathology as the skill I'm applying through or should I put something else?
Thank you!

I registered under SLP. I don’t have a degree that’s within MRA but my degree is recognized here.
You will still choose speech path if you wana work as CDA. Rem, u need to have Master’s Degree to work in Canada as an SLP. For immigration thats nit necessary.

Thank you for the reply! If say I have five years of experience in the SLP profession but without a masters, do you think I'd be able to apply for PR under SLP? Just that I won't be able to work as one? And if I get in I would automatically be able to apply for a CDA job, right? Can I ask what visa did you apply for?
Thanks!

Yes, for immigration Master's degree is not mandatory. U can apply for PR with Bachelor's, show work experience in the field. But once you land in Canada, without Master's you won't be able to practise here. But you will be able to practice as CDA.
I landed here as a permanent resident. Applied under FSW.

Thank you for the quick reply! This has been very helpful information.
You are most welcome!
In India, Bachelor of Audiology and Speech language Pathology (B.ASLP) program is being offered with (4 year program) 3 year full academic hours which include theory and practicum + 10 months intensive internship training). In Canada, the Universities offer 2 year program specially in Masters only. But compared to Canadian University MS-SLP, Indian B.ASLP is having enough load of courses in the complete duration of 3+1 =4 year with clinical practicum.
Can Indian B.ASLP degree holders be permitted to write the CETP exam?
Please let me know the eligibility of Indian B.ASLP equivalent to Canadian MS -SLP to undertake CETP to practice/job.
Would be contacting each provincial licensing organization to ask whether your degree will be recognized.
HI
Thank you very much for your kind reply.
I am searching, as you told me to, for requirements of getting registered as an Bachelor Aud & SP in provinces.
But, I am not getting much information regarding the same on internet. So, I thought of getting help of others who might have already undergone the same process.
Are you yourself an Audiologist, or your spouse is one?
And, what are you doing nowadays for gaining knowledge about your scopes in Canada? If there is anything you would like to suggest me for this, I'd really be obliged..
Your reply would be highly appreciated.
Thanks again...
My daughter currently pursuing B.audiology and SLP in Sriramachandra Institute of higher education and Research (Deemed University), Tamilnadu, India. However she is nearing completion of the program. She likes to pursue MS-SLP in Canada but Canadian MS-SLP curriculum is having similar courser as like Indian B.ASLP. Even, B.ASLP is having more course load, practicum hours than MS-SLP. In this regard, if she want to work /job in Canada without doing Masters in SLP but her B.ASLP has to be regulated in Ontario prov.. etc.
I am an audiologist and speech language pathologist from Mumbai. I have completed my MASLP in 2011. Received my PPR yesterday. Now begins the tough process of getting registered. Kindly add me to the WhatsApp group so I can get more insight.
Also if anyone has personally gone through the process and wouldn't mind guiding me, I'd be highly obliged.
Hello.. I've finished my BASLP and I'm confused whether to do my master's in Canada or India and had more questions regarding working there after master's in India. Can you add me to the group too?
