I mean there are no hard rules when it comes to GU's, we are just assuming based on previous cases and experiences. Best way is to order GCMS notes

In the Background check option, it says: we are processing your background check.
Is it possible to do a background check before the medical pass?

The BGC comprises of Criminality and security. The criminality is done early in the process based on your PCC and the biometrics you submit. The security happens later in the process after eligibility is passed. However, the MyCIC will show the BGC only.

Just got off the phone with IRCC and my progress as follows is:

AOR: August 11, 2020
MEP: August 27
Biometrics: October 9

Visa Office: Ottawa

Eligibility: Passed
Security: Not Started
Criminality: In Progress

@legalfalcon in my case, I am assuming that Eligibility is not conclusively passed since Security hasn't started right? I guess my criminality hasn't passed yet since I was only able to give my biometrics much later than when it was requested

To know if your eligibility is conclusively passed not you will have to call IRCC and specifically ask for it or see your GCMS notes. For most applicants if the security in in progress, i.e. on page 2 if it is blank, then that is an indicator that the eligibility is conclusively passed.

However, in some cases, your eligibility may be conclusively passed and the security not yet started since not all applications are sent to CBSA / CSIS for security screening. Most are, but not all.

For most security is done within 3-7 weeks. If your security is blank then it means that it is either in progress or passed. Security screening details are always redacted in the GCMS notes and you will see s15 on the top right of the page where the security is. To read on s15 see https://bit.ly/3jvbiZO

It’s a fraudulent person. CBSA would not contact you directly, they have no business with you as an applicant. Their business is with IRCC, who then contacts you, if necessary. Also, the only number you’d be contacted on is the number in your PR application. Please, do not email him back or send your Indian number to him. Check the email address of the sender to see for yourself that it’s not genuine.

His email id is ending with xxxxx@cbsa-afsc.gc.ca He gave his direct number. And address of Vancouver CBSA office.
However the email id to contact cbsa is this and has a different pattern. contact@cbsa.gc.ca

Can you check this again—did you copy-paste that exactly? Because if that's the email there is an error of ONE letter:

Damn. In that case, the email address or at least the domain appears to be legit. I think you might want to wait until @legalfalcon or someone like that advises. It does seem very odd to me that cbsa would contact you directly. Defeats the purpose of the security check, imo, to contact an applicant directly. I wonder if ircc call centre agents would be able to see in your gcms whether you were contacted by cbsa or not. But since they are an independent body, probably not? Sorry, I'm no help. Keep us posted on this.

EDIT: Just re-read your original post. If they asked you to update your IRCC portal, this should be fine. How about you call IRCC using Textnow and tell the agent about this. Ask them if they can go into your application and see a record of cbsa attempting to contact you (although I doubt they will be able to see, it's an independent body). You can nevertheless update your number with IRCC. If it is really cbsa, they ought to be able to pull your updated number via ircc's portal.

Also, if you search the forum, it appears that CBSA does sometimes call applicants.

You are right. They should be able to contact me on my current number. My PR application has my latest Indian number. The officer says he is trying to contact me on my old Canadian number which hasn't been in use for more than an year. I just dropped in a mail to cbsa to check the authenticity of the email I recieved. Waitingfor reply. Let's see what @legalfalcon has to suggest. Thanks a lot once again!

The medicals are usually updated fairly quickly. If your medicals were transmitted in June, and they still haven't been marked as passed in your MyCIC then it could be that the medical assessment may be in and it hasn't been updated, or that it has not yet been assessed. You can send a webform as inquire. Also ask your panel physician is everything was clear in your medical report.

If your medicals need further evaluation for cost threshold etc. it can take longer. But if it was clear, it is just an administrative delay.

Hi @dxben My status is same since day 1 of AOR in all the categories.
Review of medical results:
You do not need a medical exam. We will send you a message if this changes.
On the background check - the false message which we see on day 1 that it is in-progress has not changed either.

Usually CBSA will not contact an applicant as they have no involvement in your PR application. CBSA only gets involved to do security screening as and when asked by IRCC. They compiler the report and submit it to IRCC. It is IRCC that makes a decision based on the report.

CBSA would only contact you if you have any issues when you entered Canada, have any issues with customs etc.

However, you can send a webform or call CBSA to verify.
