On the application details it shows like this -

• We are processing your background check. We will send you a message if we need more information.

just not sure if we will receive an official email advising background check is in process

For certain, you will not receive any email when BG check starts. The only times you receive emails are for BIL and MEP, or when there's an update on your GCKeys account i.e if you have link your application to your GCKey online account

I don't think this alone qualifies as background check unless there's a date assigned to it. I may be wrong but that's what i've read in this forum so far. I'd like some comments on it.

Usually, the sections that carries dates are the Biometrics and Medicals sections. It will shows the date when biometrics was submitted in a VAC office and the date your medicals report was certified as passed respectively.

It doesn't indicate when BG check starts. But you can call CIC call center to know when it starts

I received AOR for my sponsorship application. My husband is my unpaid representative. So, as per the guidelines, we should not attempt to link the application to online account.
My question is, then should I rely only the ECAS tool or sponsor's email to check the updates?
please help!

If you choose not to link to GCkey online account, then I will advice you check your email regularly. What date is your AoR?

My app recieved on 6 june. Got aor 26 july but got no medical and biometrics. I am worried coz all my fellow mates are getting requests? Your views can be helpfull.

You will get the requests very soon. Remember that every application is unique and can't be compared.

Don't worry you will definitely get the biometrics and medical requests. I think applicants with July 19 AoR started receiving medical requests yesterday. So probably next week you should get the requests all things being equal.

i m may 30th applicant , got AOR on july 19 still no bio metric or medical

This is how it should look like to know that your BGC has actually completed. The initial setup of gckey always had the blurb saying that it's processing.. I'm pretty sure they don't do BG checks as soon as they receive your app. lol.
