Hi All,

I am planning to migrate to Canada and my nightmare is my qualification. I have completed my BBA from Sikkim Manipal University during the year 2016 and my admission was in Oct 2013. I am completely aware that ICAS can only be the one who can assess my qualification and also they have made it clear that Distance education programs recognized by the Distance Education Council (DEC) or UGC at the time of your admission can only be assessed. At my time of admission SMU was battling for UGC recognition and got its recognition in 2015 and my degree certificate states UGC registered. BUT, neither Distance Education Bureau (DEB) nor UGC in their recognition list states any evidence of any recognition for this period (2013-2016). I was able to find only one article by hindustan times stating that govt. protects students who were admitted to the distance education programmes from February 22, 2013, to June 26, 2015 (https://www.hindustantimes.com/educ...to-students/story-qiUQN29nDuNuijLawDm8YI.html) there is no official record for this statement from any authorized authorities.

Me being a person who works as an migration assessment officer for 6 years, I am aware that case officers do not take alot of efforts to evaluate a qualification that comes with such an ambiguous background. If there is anyone who have a similar case and got it through, please share your thoughts and if anyone have any additional information for students admitted during the time 2013-2016 will be extremely helpful.

Hi Aju,

I believe you are doing your assessment through ICAS ? When did you lodge your application/completed your document submission ? just to analyse the time frame it may take to complete your assessment. Also please share what the outcome was as it will be a relief for me.

I have submitted my application in the month of December 2018 and hopefully I will get my report by the end of this month

Dear Saurabh,

I will be applying for educational credential assessment from ICAS soon.
I have completed my graduation from Sikkim Manipal University Distance Education from Kolkata center.
All my mark sheets and pass certificate only mentions Gangtok, Sikkim.
While filling up the application form in ICAS website it asks about the City, Sate/Province of your school/college.
Here, do I need to mention Kolkata West Bengal OR Gangtok, Sikkim?

Another question is that while filling up the application form should i mention my school/college name or the university name ?

You need to mention the centre name from where you have done your graduation also you need to mention the school and college name as well

I have done my graduation from SMU DE but my centre was Kolkata.
So just one clarification , do I have to mention the Centre name in the note at the last page and also in the state province field should I mention Kolkata or Sikkim, considering if I mention SMU in the school/college field?

You have to apply through ICAS. They accept SMU CERTIFICATE
