Just applied for both citizenship surrender and OCI together at brampton bls. Only original docs they took from me for OCI is COPR which will be returned to me in 15 days i think. They didnt ask for my original canadian passport or citizenship certificate. I am not really worried if my docs gets lost at any stage of application processing. Its safe but its not the end.

Hello everyone, I would appreciate if someone who had a first hand experience on getting OCI can please explain the process. It seems to be very complicated, and I think they require all the original documents. I am worried about giving them original docs.
If I decide to get multiple visa instead of OCI, how long can I stay on visa. After exiting, how soon can I re-enter.
1. Does the child have to put the thumb impression in all the supporting documents copy or both parents can just sign it.

- no, for my application and for my children only I signed those supporting documents.

- once you are at the end of the OCI application submission page you will get the documents to upload page. You have to select each applicable categories and upload one single pdf file per category.
Refer to the checklist last page to see the number of scanned pages required in each applicable category required....
E.g. adult born in 18:
Category> Indian Origin Proof > scann copies of front and back page of the Indian passport to be uploaded under one pdf.
Similarly for children: e.g.
Category> Indian Visa > scan copy of landing paper of a child + landing paper for both the parents (total 3-pages) under one pdf doc.

Jun 04th, 2018: Received my cancelled Indian Passport with Surrender Certificate
Jun 11th, 2018 (as far as I remember): Received my OCI Acknowledgement (dated Jun 7th) with my Original Documents (Landing Paper)
OCI Status page:

Dispatched From MEA (OCI ) NEW DELHI On 29-JUN-2018
Document received At TORONTO On 05-JUL-2018
Received my OCI Booklet today morning 06-JUL-2018
Overall Process: less than 40 days (29 Business Days).
** Note that you no longer need to go for Canada Passport submission (after 3 status updates) as they no longer put the sticker on the Canadian Passport. I went to BLS today and they said since you have already received your OCI Booklet, the process is finished and no further submission is needed** - Travel to India with Canadian Passport and the OCI Booklet. That's it.
In summary, once you have done the first step to visit the BLS, thats it. Rest everything will come to your mailing address.

Do they provide tracking number of courier company. Which courier company do they use FedEx, UPS or Canada post ?
I am worried because when I went there to submit my application, they said the forms for surrender certificate has changed, so gave me new forms and asked me to re-do all the applications, which I did in a rush. Now i am worried I may have made a mistake in any forms. I hope if there is any mistake they will let me know and they wont just reject it right away.
