Hello paki786 and fellow Forum members,

I wanted to post the above, and see (no surprise!) that it is already posted by our esteemed paki786.

Perhaps I can add the following link: https://www.thestar.com/news/immigration.html which collects most if not all of the articles on Immigration by the Toronto Star.

***Off-topic question with humility:

***May I also wonder aloud, what is the boundary for use of the term "paki" - its something as an Irish-Spanish-Italian Canadian I would NEVER say publicly or privately, and I have heard it used derogatorily on occasion around the world. I imagine its a term no-one but a Pakistani should/could/would say, but what is your idea? Perhaps its merely short-form convenience for permitted users?
I realise this may be a sensitive matter for some or all of you - I really would like to understand the various points of view on this, because I am a public speaker and educator about cultural awareness and sensitivity (while trying to avoid cultural ignorance and hyper-sensitivity!) Thanks in advance for any replies.***

Kind regards to you all and good luck with your applications.

'Paki' got so bad that we wear it with proud now :p. Can't speak for everyone but there are many who don't mind. I guess you can say that it's similar to 'nigger'. We can call ourselves Paki but others should avoid just to be on the safe side. I personally don't mind. :)

It's actually very common in Canada. If you live in small towns especially there is alot of racism there. Even in the cities among children and teens you will often hear it.

Sadly the states has just gone downhill. They used to be good, accepting before, my phupo tells me. She was there since the 70s and said it was completely different, after 9/11 it just changed.

true, i agree. it was not very bad immediately after 9/11 but as years went by and politics got dirtier, so did the people. once trump came, it gave life to all the racists and Islamophobes to come out en masse.

There you go! You have finally answered it. Pakistan was doing very well until 1970s. From then on, the political situation messed it up. The corrupt and selfish politicians have ruined the country. The trickle down effect on people is unavoidable. Pakistan people naturally are fine people but we have been 'corrupted' due to system we are brought up in. The decisions these politicians made have ruined our image on the world stage. Since you were born and raised here, you may not understand it exactly the way someone who was born and raised in Pak would do :)

my mom is catholic born in karachi but her people are goan my mom left Pakistan when she was 9 years old her family been in Canada since 1965 but mom has cousin still in karachi plus mom younger sister is born in Canada I am second generation Canadian and my son is third generation Canadian no one in my do not want to visit Pakistan last time they went in 1972 and 1974 thats it
