Yes it will turn to approved when the card is mailed to you. It usually takes around 10-14 days after production. Once it turns to approved, it means that the card has been mailed to you, and you'll receive it in a few days (depending on where you live). That's the general pattern here.

I got an updated on last Friday as I landed on April 12. I got no photo request so is that safe? Did you got an update with a photo request for the first time? Or the photo request came after the update?

No I didn't get an update when they asked for photos, so you're totally safe. The update means that your card went to production (meaning your photos were accepted). Your status will turn to approved later this week.

When you say the update is received, how one would know that its updated? Any status change from 'Submitted'?

Yes it changes from Submitted to Updated, then when you click on it and click back, it goes back to submitted.

Well that's interesting. For me, it worked when I entered the place of birth exactly as per the passport. Initially I entered it as per COPR and it did not work.

Hmmm I guess there's no rule then. Applicants should try all the possible combinations (between city and province)

Thanks for the update. Looks like there is quite a bit of movement in resubmitted photo processing in the recent days.

Below is the response I received yesterday from CSC for a Case Specific Enquiry.

Clearly, the agents don't seem to have accurate information on the resubmitted photo processing dates.

We have verified the information you provided and we were not able to locate your photographs in the system yet.

However, rest assured that this situation is normal since the responsible office is currently processing photo retakes received before April 17, 2018.
