Parent Sponsorship 2018 - Income (LICO)

Hello All,

Can someone please answer this for me? Thank you.

In order to see if I meet the LICO requirements, which line of the federal tax return should meet the LICO, is it line 150 Total Income, or Line 236 Net Income, or Line 260 Taxable income?

Please help, thank you.

Looking at the Federal Income Table for sponsors of parents and grandparents it seems like I meet the income requirements for 5 persons. Is there anything else I need to consider from an income perspective? Please advise, thank you!

The qualifying LICO years are 2015, 2016 and 2017.

Question: If you have received EI and that's counted on Line 150, do you still meet the requirement? Because on the form IMM 5516, under section 3 you have to deduct any "Amounts paid to you under the Employment Insurance Act, other than special benefits". I am a bit confused there, can someone help?

No, regular EI does not count towards LICO as you specifically need to subtract it.

Only "special benefit" EI (like maternity leave) can be counted.

Just to add to this thread, Mr Zahid, how can one prove LICO for 2017 when we haven't yet received the T4 for this year and we want to apply before that ? Besides is 3 year LICO necessary even for sponsoring parents for visitor visa ? I am a PRC holder since 2016 only and even my 2016 tax year NOA hasn't been received as yet. So i was planning to apply based on my submitted returns bank statement and recent pay slips and employment letter. Is that okay ?

This is for sponsoring parents for PR, which you don't qualify for.

Has nothing to do with applying for TRV or supervisa. You should post your questions on this to Visitors section of forum, not family sponsorship.

My daughter was born on 1st Jan 2018, I had done my LICO calculation based on 5 person but after my daughter birth do I need to do LICO calculation for previous 3 years on 5 persons or 6 persons?

You need to meet LICO for 6 people for all 3 years.

Hi, I have the same situation, in 2015 2016 2017 I meet the LICO for 4 person. But my baby born on march 2018. I been searching all over the place for specific information that I have to meet LICO for 5 person not for 4 person, but can not find any place even on CIC.GC.CA website. On website shows how to calculate LICO but no info for such this type of case. (I guess cic is asking for only 2017 2016 2015 income and family member add after those year) Can you please help to find on website or share link. Really appreciate your help. Thank you.

As per IMM5768, you need to put your current family size and that determines your minimum necessary income.

Just look at the form you fill out to calculate family size. https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/ircc/migration/ircc/english/pdf/kits/forms/imm5768e.pdf
Nowhere does it ask for info as of a specific year or date, it simply asks for info today (when you fill in the app and sign it). So if your baby is already born when you fill in the form, then they are included in your family size and need to include for 3 previous years.

Hey, I have been trying to call CIC lately, but no luck. For LICO, I am 1500$ short in 2015, but with significantly higher incomes in 2016 and 2017. I have been invited for Sponsorship from the draw, and want to sponsor both my parents. Anyway, can I still apply, or I absolutely have to meet all 3 years for LICO for all 4 family members?

If no then WHAT'S MY BEST BET NOW? APPLY ANYWAY, WITH AN EXPLANATION LETTER MAYBE?
