Out of curiosity, anyone know how OHIP works with Inland applications? I've been searching the forums and found many different responses. Is it possible to apply (submitted OWP+Spousal Sponsorship)? If so, when can we do this?
I am posting here hoping to find a suggestion on how to proceed with spousal sponsorship in my situation.
So I got my COPR Visa valid till 17th June 2018 and I will mostly travel in April to finish my landing formalities.
My boyfriend and I are planning to get married sometime in the next couple of months and I want to include him in my application.
How soon can I include him in my application once we are married? Should I be having a job for sure to include him in my application? Or is it enough to show the proof of funds like we do for the single applicant? How much should we be showing as proof of funds? Please mention the set of documents I will need to include him. Also please guide regarding getting him a work permit through the same application.
Considering the fact that he is waiting for divorce papers from the court from his previous marriage, how soon can we marry so that the visa officer does not think it is a marriage out of convenience and what proofs do we need to show him to convince regarding the same?
Please suggest if there is anything else that we must consider.

I don;t think I can answer all of your questions, however, I do know that once you are married, if you fill out an application with CIC you must declare that you are married and include your husband in the application form or else CIC might flag you for misrepresentation. Also, just to inform you, your husband must be divorced if you are going to get legally married again for Canada to recognize the marriage, and apply for spousal sponsorship as married. The only other option is if you have lived with each other for at least a year, then you can apply as Common Law if his divorce has not been finalized yet.

Thank you very much for your reply. Means a lot. We haven't lived together during the last year so the Common Law is ruled out for us. We will get married sometime after his divorce has been finalized and then apply. I am still trying to find inputs on if the job is a must for me or showing proof of funds will be sufficient.

Are you referring to if you need a job to sponsor him? If yes, then you don't necessarily need a job as there is no set income you need to be a sponsor, however, CIC does want to see that you will be able to support eachother, whether that be through parents helping you or through a job itself. You do need to send proof of income as one of the requirements for sponsorship approval. If you don't have an employment letter, then you will have to write a letter explaining why you cannot provide a letter of employment.

If you planned to get married before landing, you need to inform CIC and add him to your application. Your COPR will be invalid once you get married (COPR is issued when you are single). He will need to go through medical and criminal check...etc. (just like when you applied for PR)
This is assuming that you get your COPR via your own (not as a dependent of your parents).
Once everything is done, then CIC will issue new COPR for you and your then husband.
If you will land first, then get married. Then you can apply spousal sponsorship for him. You do not need a job but you need to show CIC how you planned to support yourself and your spouse in Canada. (savings, support from parents ..etc)
Good to see folks who applied in January are receiving their AOR's, wishing everyone the very best. I am Planning on applying for my spouse during the first week in March this year, she currently resides in Pakistan while I am working in Canada and have a Permanent Resident Status.
My Question to the experts is: I am planning on visiting her for two weeks end of April/early May this year. Someone told me I should not leave Canada until I get a confirmation that I am approved in principle (Sponsorship eligibility) is that correct?
Also just so it may help anyone applying soon; the Document Checklist just got updated (February 2018) and apparently their are now asking for Police Certificates and the Declaration forms as part of the application package
Wow, thanks for the update. My spouse just submitted the application and we didn’t see the updated checklist. Is that gonna be an issue or they’ll ask for the PCC later?
We just sent in our application via UPS! Now the wait begins. Fingers crossed it will be accepted.
For those that linked their application online - what kind of questions did they ask you? I didn't make a copy of our full application but I did save some forms.
i'm assuming the questions won't be too difficult to answer.

We sent in our application January 15th, it was recieved January 18th, and we got AOR and request for police records and schedule A yesterday, which I uploaded straight away! It still says your action is required though, but nothing to do, so I contacted them about a technical issue, in case it’s a glitch or whatever... it says my documents are uploaded, (says replacements provided in green?) but I’ve seen other people have that to, so I’m guessing everything is fine. I’m so happy to finally have everything going? We worked on it for months!

Thank you very much for your reply. It is indeed a ray of hope for me.
We are planning to get married after I finish my landing (I will comeback in a couple of weeks or months, get married and go back. If possible, along with him.)
Supposing I finished my landing, can I include him immediately or only after I get my PR card?
If we are going to show that we will be taking support from his / my parents, what are the documents that we will need to show to CIC?
Please let me know.
Best Regards,
SD
