I sent my documents by mail to Indian consulate Chicago 2 weeks ago. I didn't see any change in my return tracking envelope so I called them up today. The guy who picked up the phone said it will take 1.5 months to issue a PCC since my passport was issued in India. Has anyone else faced this? Other consulates do it in 2 weeks and I've seen people get it from Chicago in the same time. Anyone who got their PCC recently from Chicago can comment on this?
Update.. Got the following reply from them by email
"With reference to your PCC application it is found that your Police Verification is not clear and we need clearance from respective passport issuing authority. You will receive Nationality Status Verification (NSV)form by tomorrow. We have sent back your passport today. Thank you"
My passport verification was done again recently when I went to India. I got it done because there was a problem. What can I do now?
Do we need to send original Passport to consulate office or notarised copy would do?
I am reluctant about sending my original passport via mail; and will remain tense till I get it back
The website says we need to send original passport, but their representative on the phone says otherwise. She told me very confidently that original passport is not to be sent.

So what happened after this? Did you send the NSV form and how long did it take after that?
Since I applied in person, I was asked to provide the NSV while I was there. Passport was issued in London. It has been more than a week and I haven't heard anything yet.

There was a problem from my local police commissioner office. My file was stuck at their desk. I told my family in India to call them and clear my file. After that I got clearance in 2 days.

Thank you. Sorry to press on it, but how did you get to know that it was stuck at the Commissioner's office?
When I called the consulate today, they said they will not be able to provide any updates on the PCC and that when they receive it, they will send an email to collect it.
You need to contact your passport issuing office and find out why PVR is not clear. That's how I found out my file is stuck at the commissioner office.
While sending documents,
1. Did you guys complete top part of personal particulars form where it asks for FROM/TO?
2. Did you guys send original passport?

I took a train to Chicago, got PCC done from Consulate and came back the same day. Because I did not want to send my original passport and wait.
There was no "Personal Particulars Form" at that time. It is a new addition, so can't say anything about it.
Also, I just found this written on Indian Consulate Chicago page: Supporting Documents: Photocopy of all supporting documents should be notarized and attached to the application. Do not send any original documents.
