Yes there was a quota of 10K last year,
that is they will draw 10000 applicants from the pool only.

In order to sponsor, you must…

• be 18 years of age or older;
• be a Canadian citizen, Registered Indian or permanent resident;
• be sponsoring a member of the family Class;
• live in Canada;
• sign an undertaking promising to provide for the basic requirements of the person being sponsored;
• sign an agreement with the person you are sponsoring that confirms that each of you understands your mutual obligations and responsibilities;
• prove that you have sufficient income to provide the basic requirements for your family members in Canada as well as the persons included in your sponsorship undertaking. You may also have a co-signer.

Does it make a difference if the parent is on a visit while applying for sponsorship, I mean will it have any impact on the processing time?

You should anticipate 3-4 years. They are currently working on 2014 applications.

There is zero mention anywhere on 2017 income. The only indication of income so far is same as last year, 2014/2015/2016.

If they do the lottery and start accepting apps in a more efficient and timely way vs last year, then it's possible 2017 NOAs may not yet be available for 2018 intake, in which case 2014/2015/2016 income will be required. Recall that self employed people often don't have their taxes done until much later in the year.

Will need to wait though until official 2018 app package is released.

Rob, you've got a very good point. But my assumption was because they haven't released the 2018 application package yet.

And it says this on the website: "Look at the Federal Income Table for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship in this guide to help you decide if you have the financial ability to meet sponsorship requirements. Note that your calculations will only be an estimate."

That last sentence led me to believe that they would request 2015, 2016, 2017. I guess we won't know till January. But seems to be ridiculous requesting income from 2014. Such a long time ago.

There is a spreadsheet going around. They have processed some of the 2017 applications already over the past 2-3 weeks (mostly the first applicants by the looks of it)

Just going off the website.......I wouldn’t “expect” to be completed sooner than that....there are always exceptions.

Hmmmm....so they have used essentially the same method for calculating income for the past umpteen years, and now you find fault in it? Based on your postings from the 2017 PGP posts, you should be well aware of how it works. Seems unless the process suits you specifically, nothing is fair about it. Get over it.

This is exactly what they've done since 2014.

Even in 2017 when lottery was first announced, they specified 2013/2014/2015 incomes to be eligible. However it was only after lottery was screwed up and took so long to draw names, tax returns were already completed so they changed rule last-minute to 2014/2015/2016.

If we go by how IRCC has run parents program since 2014, should expect 2014/2015/2016 income to be eligible to apply in 2018. It's only if they start the actual app submission much later in the year when 2017 tax returns would already be completed, would they make rule 2015/2016/2017.

But again, all we are doing is complete guesses until they confirm.

Totally agree Rob that it's not clear at the moment. Doesn't really matter to me either way.

I know they have. But just think it's a strange way of assessing applicants. Cant wrap my head around the logic of asking for income from so long ago.

We will see on January 2nd I guess. Either way, fingers crossed we get picked and best of luck to all other applicants
