I think they mention on your ppr email that if you cannot send passport in 30 days you have to email them the situation
Well, I think it may take longer time to get pp back but based on my knowledge everything will be fine, and also my co-worker also mailed his pp back to canada to his wife and submit them together , everything is good too.
