I am FSW outland from Pakistan. It has been six and half months since AOR on Dec 2 2016. I emailed CPC Ottawa (currently local visa office processing my file) after completing six months and they replied the following:
"Your file is currently under review and requires additional verification. As a result, the assessment period will be outside of our posted processing times.
Unfortunately at this time we are not able to determine when your application will be finalized, but our office will contact you as soon as all verifications are completed, or if any additional information or documents are required.
We appreciate your patience and ask that you keep correspondence with our office to a minimum. In order to process requests efficiently, we will not be responding to duplicate requests."
As per the CIC call agents, my Eligibility and Criminality checks have been passed and security is currently under process. For my spouse even the security check has been completed. Only my security is pending now. My CIC online account is showing IP stage 2 since Mar 17.
Based on this forum post and above email, I feel my file has been chosen for security screening. I have ordered GCMS notes yesterday to ascertain whether that's being the case or not. Even though I dont have much travel history except one year in the US for masters and then visit to UAE for some vacations.
Eager to know if my file is really in security screening? if yes then how long can it take?
AOR 2 : Dec 2016
Medical passed one week later
Background check : We are processing your background check since Mar 21 2017
Got married and added spouse to my application by submitting all the documents of spouse on 14 April 2017
Waiting since then. As per the call agents, IRCC has passed medical of my spouse and also finished her background check. Only my security is pending now.

YOU HAVE EXACTLY SIMILAR CASE LIKE MINE...
MY AOR 4th DEC
Medical Passed 1 day later
BG Check started since 21 March 2017
My Spouse security is done only mine is remaining..My visa office is Ottawa..
I got the GCMS notes. I see that my parents also have won the lottery ticket for Security Screening.
Under activity section, I see the first 3 activities listed as Security Screening, namely, Activity 1, 2 and 3. On Activity 3, the status is "Not Started." For Activity 1 and 2, the status is blanked out. Do we know how many activities of Security Screening are usually recorded, once the process is completed?
My guess is 4. "Not Started", "Submitted", "In Progress" and "Passed." Any thoughts?

Is your file going through addtional security screening as well. I will receive my GCMS notes that will confirm whether mine is chosen for additional security screening or not?

It should be about 6-8 entries when it's finished.
How do you know your parents are also being selected for security screening? Are they also applicants or they just check them because you mentioned them in 'family' section?

What's your timeline like? And all GCMS notes that I have seen under SS have the same 3 entries only. Although Sugar2016 mentioned a GCMS file which had cleared security after Security Screening and has like 8-9 entries. I've asked her for the details on that GCMS file in the whatsapp group. Waiting for her response there (or here!) ...
The wait is killing and why special SS for us? What wrong we have done? I have lot of travel history (work related + tourism), around 20+ countries visited. My BGIP status changed on 27 Apr 2017, so based on earlier discussions, guess I will get PPR by worst case Sep-2017. Even I wanted to enter before Sep and have planned so many things. I have 3 months notice period from my current organisation, then my medical is expiring in Nov month. So based on my timeline, I won't have enough time to serve my notice period. As @Dragonfly said, I need to replan and go for some therapy.

PPR: ?????????????????????????????????????????? Looks like next year
We have a similar case... I traveled to many countries for work and tourism, my BG check started 26 April, so we should be done at about the same time. I have a 2 months notice at my work If I don't get PPR before October, I won't be able to go, my meds expire in Dec. I might have to ask for meds extension/redo or land and come back.
