My wife applied for her SWOP from VSF, Delhi. Here is a quick background about her previous applications:
-> I came on as a student in 2014, her open work permit application was rejected as it took too long to process and my study permit was about to expire
-> Applied for TRV in 2015, rejected (usual reasons)
> Applied for TRV again in 2016, rejected (travel history, etc)

After careful consideration and research, we decided to apply for SOWP. See details for below.

Application Date: June 19, 2017
Application Type: Paper Application (VSF, Delhi)
Documents Submitted:

1. Immigration fee payment receipt of $255
2. IMM5488E (document checklist)
3. IMM1295E (application made outside Canada)
4. IMM5645E (family info)
5. Cover letter
6. Passport (original)
7. Copy of passport (photocopy of each page of the passport)
8. Proof of marriage (Marriage certificate, photographs, chat conversations, and email communications)
9. Police clearance certificate
10. Past employment letters
11. Bank statement for last three months
12. Academic certificates
13. Spouse’s Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP)
14. Spouse’s full-time employment letter
15. Spouse’s pay slip for last three months
16. Spouse’s bank account statement for last three months
17. Spouse’s company insurance card
18. Spouse’s passport
19. Spouse’s Ontario Health Card

Latest time line for SOWP, Online application made to Delhi Centre. This one was surprisingly fast.

Applied: June 10th 2017
Medical Request: June 16th 2017

That is crazy and sounds very positive. My wife submitted a paper application on today (June 19th).

hello friends,
My situation is bit different. I applied for my spouse's open work permit on april 20, 2017 via online. i did not get any message in the account but i just checked for update on 6 june, and it says refused in the details but no refusal letter is attached and no new message in the account. i emailed to the program manager but no response yet.. Is it refused or there is an error?? Please advice

By online you me VSF or MyCIC? If it's MyCIC, they attach a refusal letter. If you checked VSF online, I am not sure. You should call CIC and ask.

Hi Guys,

Finally, after waiting 4 months , received passport request . Certainly a good feeling.

Here is my timelime -

Applied Online (from india) - Feb 23, 2017
Medical Request - May 16, 2017
Medical Passed - June 19, 2017
Passport Requested - June 19, 2017

I am about to drop my passport in VFS tomorrow, Can i assume this as visa approval??? Are there any cases getting rejections even after passport being sent or requested by CIC??

hello

i am an international student currently living in Canada, i applied TRV visa for my spouse and it got rejected and the reasons were pretty unclear like family ties.whatever, for Spousal open workpermit i just wanted to know does it need financial proof cuz there is no option for uploading financial proof. kindly help me for filling an application like
1. how long the stay will be?

more than or less than six month

2. does it need any job letter?

3. an applicant should be dependent on work permit holder or studying in Canada

Since you are a student, financial proof is important. When is your student visa expiring?

When I opened my account to check status of my work permit application. It showed updated, when I clicked on check status there was no change and no new message. when I went back to main page the status showed "submitted" as usual. and messages "read".

Yes, that common. I think, when they make internal updates, applicants receive an email, but you will see no change in the status.

Its through my cic. And till dis date there is no refusal letter attached n its more than 10 days now

Since you are a student, financial proof is important. When is your student visa expiring?

My student visa is expiring on August of 28th in 2018.

i have a questions, if the case is reverse, i mean applicant doesnot receive an email but status changed to refused and no refusal letter is issued and no new message , its been 15 days.

I submitted my application for obtaining Visa in April 2017 and until 11 May 2017, I received Visa. However I got married at the end of May 2017. How can I apply Open Work Permit for my spouse? I dont know how to fill out information in IMM1295E form. UCI mentioned in forms is mine?

Has anyone applied from United States, New York office? Could you share the timeline. US office seems to be a little behind in terms of processing time.

My timeline below:

Application: 21st March
No updates so far.
Processing time is updated to 15 weeks now (earlier it was 11 weeks).
