Generally speaking, citizens and PR's will attract more attention. But that said, you can call their office and tell them your story. Then ask if they want to speak to your wife first. I would guess they would say no, but if they are very busy, then they might try to defer to put it off until later..
Done! Even a new SIN for my wife. The hardest was to sleep and wait until 9h30 to walk there. Once arrived we waited for 5-10 minutes before being called. Then about 5 minutes with the agent and it was done.

Pretty easy, ya? For us, the SIN was the pain. They have to mail it to us (maybe Kitchener isn't that fast at reporting landings?). Service Canada told us they had to sent a paper copy of the application for new SIN in, so they will mail a SIN to us... *shrug* oh well..
