Hello Guys just wanted to share my case, my wife has taken her second course in January I am on SOWP here in Canada, our visa's are expiring at the end of this month, I just wanted to know what is the trend in these cases for a positive outcome as I am quite worried...

When did you apply to extend your SOWP? Is she taking a Masters or PhD for you to be eligible?

We applied in Jan, my wife had earlier enrolled in a one year diploma course and after it's completion she now enrolled in a second diploma course and applied for extension

So you are not eligible for extension as she is not in a Master, PhD or degree program.

Don't get it though some people received their extension in similar circumstances, seems odd.

Within last couple of months? May get lucky. If refused then spouse will want to focus on PGWP and job that is eligible for SOWP.

Yep Lots of people received it even in the IRCC official site it mentions that those who already hold SOWP are exempt here have a look https://www.canada.ca/en/immigratio...-student-program-reform-more-information.html

Hi, I have a similar case. I already had a valid Open Work Permit and applied for extension for SOWP in August 2024 based on my spouse's 2nd course program. After 8 months, they refused it yesterday saying your course is not eligibile. However, all of my friends got spouse OWP extension in the same case. I am writing reconsideration request with proper explanation and submitting a webform.

If SOWP expired then stop working, and wait to see if reopen your file.

When does your spouse finish studies? Focus may be on eligible PGWP NOC for you to get SOWP approved. Good luck.

Thanks. Yes, that's the last option. Just last few weeks of his studies and he has eligible NOC offer. If IRCC doesn't respond to web form then we'll apply PGWP+SOWP. But then we need to apply my SOWP under restoration status and that means I can't work until they make the decision.

I had the same case as you. I got refusal on April 01 with same reason and Spousal got study permit granted in April 02. Please inform me with the reconsideration outcome.
