The only downside for me was the wait for the e-certificate, but it seems most people get it the same day. I think some weirdness was going on in the Calgary office email, similar to the same weirdness I ran into for the RCMP fingerprints.
I always said I wanted the e-certificate because you don't have to send off your "original" for a passport, and also because it can be infinitely backed up and printed. However, I am going through the passport application for the occupation-based guarantor form (PPTC 140) and it states in the requirements checklist:
Proof of Canadian citizenship; the document will be returned to you
Birth certificate: ORIGINAL
Citizenship certificate, if issued:
Before February 1, 2012: ORIGINAL
On or after February 1, 2012: ORIGINAL OR COPY (emphasis mine)
So I guess one benefit of the e-certificate that I thought was there is not real. I just wanted to update since I had misinformed, thinking you had to send your original certificate if you get a paper certificate. I'm not sure if this applies to the regular passport forms. Too bad I couldn't use the "citizenship to passport pilot" I was invited to; I wouldn't even need a guarantor.
PS - I registered to vote from abroad, so I should get my ballot by mail.

That note sounds like you've been referred to a level 2 team to review and provide a decision. For whatever reason, your application requires a more senior and specialized officer to review and make the decisions.
I just received an email of instructions to download e-certificate. However, no Oath email or date yet as the tracker is not working. Is this the first/normal step before we get an Oath date?

I got the oath email and e-certificate email the same day, but the e-certificate one came later. Hopefully the tracker will work tomorrow. If you haven't received the email in a couple of days, contact IRCC to see if you should have.
