I recently applied for a study permit extension and open work permit under IMM5709. Here’s my situation:
• Graduated with a BComm in Accounting from the University of Calgary.
• Accepted into the CPA program (starting Jan 2025), which requires a study permit
• Secured a full-time job offer starting Jan 2025 in an Accounting firm with CPA rotation program.
I’m unsure if applying for both permits together was the best approach. Should I have applied for a PGWP instead? How can I align my work, study, and PR goals effectively, especially to meet the CEC’s one-year work experience requirement?

So you didn’t apply for a PGWP? What open work permit are you eligible for? Do you mean study permit that allows you to work up to 24 hours? When did you graduate and what have you been doing since graduation? When did you apply for extension?
