I am a PR, my wife lives outside Canada.
I know the common way to bring her is to apply for sponsorship PR, then apply for visitor visa after receiving the AoR of the sponsorship application.
Can my wife apply for the visitor visa before applying for PR sponsorship application? Anyone tried that and it worked?

Sure, you can try. Some are approved and some are refused.
It will strengthen your wife's case if she can show strong ties to her home country like employment and if she has previous travel to countries requiring visas.
which way is better? PR sponsorship first then visa, or start directly with the visa?
My wife never travelled before, but she is working, and I am going to invite her saying that I will cover all her expenses.
