My husband is in Canada on SOWP which is valid until next year July, 2024. Does he need to apply for TRV if he want to visit India and coming back to Canada?

What does his permit state. Does he have a TRV? Sometimes TRV expiry is the same as SOWP.

It will not say TRV
The dates stamped are TRV per Canadian standard
When one lands at the border, the permit is issued in a paper form
