Dear All,

I am 58 years old and completed MSc in Human Resource Management from The University of Manchester, UK and MBA from India. I have more than 20 years of work experience in HR and finance management. However, I am not sure about the eligibility for Canada. Can I apply for any type of visa.

You will not be eligible for Express Entry. You need a job offer and your employer needs to file for and pay $1k for a LMIA. The LMIA shows that no Canadian or PR could be hired. Then with LMIA, you apply for a closed work permit. For the permit, you show that you are experienced to do the job. This doesn’t allow you to immigrate but work in Canada. You still may not be eligible for immigration bases on your age, IELTs etc.

Canada prioritized immigration for young people. You lose points as you age and it becomes es extremely hard to immigrate over 40. It is also extremely difficult to restart a career in a new country in general but at 60 it would be almost impossible to get a management job unless you are being transferred by an employer to Canada. Even Canadians would have a very difficult time finding good employment at age 60 especially in a different field. There is ageism in the job market. Is there a reason you want to move to Canada? If your children are 22 or older (or married) they would not be able to join you. Unless you arrive with millions in assets to support you during retirement moving to Canada at your age would not be a good idea and there would be a good chance that you would end up living in poverty.
