If you want to wait for a month for them to reply, then it's better you send them paper application which appears to be a fast track option these days, and if you have urgency then add airline ticket copy.
My online application was submitted a month ago, still status shows as "Submitted", no AOR so far.
Anyways, you know what's best for you. I wish you Good Luck.

No I didn't because I already submitted my online application. I actually ask some Senior Members here for suggestions if I should just wait or send paper application, but not yet got any reply.

If application is submitted online, this is already in their queue, so I think we should just wait as the processing time for PR card renewal is 60 days. They won't bother responding to our enquiries before 60 days passed. What worry me is I'm traveling in November and want to ensure PR cards are renewed prior.
I thought this system has been there for a while, and submitted my application thru online.
It turned out to be a new system, and i'm worried about the process time as well.
It seems we are the first ppl using this system, and need another 1 month to prove if it processes as normal.
guys please keep updated

I have a situation. Last Friday I submitted PR Card renewal application for myself and my wife through PR Portal. Today I see that for my application under "Reason for Return" it says "Photos are missing" and definitely I uploaded the front and back side of my photo. Now the application status is still "Submitted" and "Action" button is disabled. So, shall I create separate application again or should I try with paper application?
Any input is really appreciated.

Don't the best answer or solution to your situation, but if application is returned then it's returned to you. You can try submitting a new application. This system is so immature that it does not give people a clear path to next step.
You can try calling IRCC to clarify.

Thanks, yes that might be an option. It's interesting that there is no way to delete the application as well, even though its not submitted. I'm trying to create a new one application to try, but it says that I already have an application in the system.
Did you see "Ready to submit" next to the form IMM 5444 under status when you applied online? No matter what I do here, I dont see "Ready to submit", but I see it next to all other requirements

I submitted my online application last week, still no update.
I called ircc today to see if I can cancel my online application, and he said no. but he said I can send another paper application if I'm worried, and I might need pay the fee again tho. it doesn't hurt to send two applications, ircc will only process the first arrived one.

Never mind, I finally got it to work! Another bug I suppose. When I added the reason for a travel item in the "time spent outside Canada" table, it was around 30 words. I shortened that to a couple of words and now I'm able to submit! That's crazy because it wasn't giving an error. Anyway, thanks for all the help. I will keep you posted of progress.
