Writing thesis in Canadian school, living outside Canada

So I had to go back to my home country to work in order to support myself and my family. I'm still registered at a Canadian university because I'm writing my thesis, but my permit expires next month. I don't know whether to apply outside of Canada, or inside of it using a family member's address (my wife is Canadian). What do I do?
