I have been thinking about moving to america for the past few years only realizing that will never happen. Till one of my friends said it is easier to get a job in Canada. I would like to no how long it took you to get a job in Canada. I will be moving from the UK,I have started to apply for jobs which I have experience in. How long did it take for the process to happen?. and how did you guys manage to find somewhere to live out there too?. Thanks in advance
It depends on your skills and luck and hard work. Basically you are asking an employer to apply for a labour market opinion for you in order for you to be allowed to apply for a work permit. The employer will not get it unless they can prove that the job was advertised and no qualified applicants showed up so as long as the employer is able to find Canadians, they are unlikely to want to waste their time trying to apply for an LMO.
If you are a UK citizen and qualify for a working holiday visa, you can use that to get an open work permit. This would allow you to come to Canada and freely look for a job and take any job without any further paperwork. You can extend this one time for another year. If you play your cards right and make sure to find a skilled position and work full time for a year, you can apply for your immigration under Canadian experience class.
Thank you leon for your words of advice, I got offered a job not the best one but working for mcdonalds when i applied last time in america but stupidly didnt take it as i had other things to sort out with my life(family commitments). I will apply for the work permit thanks
Keep in mind that low skilled work is unlikely to lead to immigration. If you go for the working holiday visa, you should not waste your time with unskilled jobs because at the end, you will be going home again. However, if you manage to get a job as a shift manager at McDonalds or similar, that would be considered a skilled position.
