Good afternoon,
We intend to discuss this with a lawyer, but just curious if anyone has experience with this.
My husband is a software engineer who recently applied for his Open Work Permit and PR. We reside in Canada and he's looking for remote work outside Canada at the moment.
A Canadian company is interested in working with him and they know his immigration status. They suggested that they may be able to sponsor him, but they also asked if they could hire him as an independent contractor (with him setting up a small business in his home country) rather than sponsoring him. I'm sure this all comes down to time and money.
Just curious if anyone has experience. I have a feeling the latter option could pose problems as he would be competing in the Canadian labour market. Your input and experience would be greatly appreciated!
