Hi,

I (the sponsor) and my partner (principal applicant) are putting together an application for Outland Common-Law Sponsorship.

Since the time to process can take up to a year, we were wondering if there is a possibility to simultaneously apply for a work permit to work in Canada already sooner, or if we have to wait until PR gets approved?

Thanks so much for your help!
All the best,
Constantine

Short answer is no since you are applying outland.

Open work permits are not available to applicants applying outland.

You would need to submit an inland application with both of you being physically in Canada in order to qualify for a work permit.
