HI, My friend is on closed work permit in canada, he would be residing outside canada for 3-4 months due to personal reason and covid , during this time he will be on unpaid leave , few days paid leave and few weeks working from home.
1) Does he needs an eTA to return back to canada , his work permit was granted in 2019
2) Does the work permit expire if you stay outside canada for too long ?
3)How long can he stay outside canada ?

1) Either an eTA or TRV - depending on what passport he holds.
2) No. The work permit will expire on the stated expiry date.
3) As long as he wants.

As per canada's website its mentioned that they granted the eTA when they granted work permit, but he cant find it on the work permit nor on the visa stamped on the passport
